Their Love Story

Elizia's go-to joke is that -- since they met when Kyle volunteered for her after-school leadership club -- he must have loved being told what to do so much that he decided to dedicate the rest of his life to listening to Elizia.

In all reality, the couple's love story began when they were surrounded by East African teens at Cleveland High School in Seattle, WA. Elizia was a plucky AmeriCorps member and Kyle was entering a parallel love affair with cultural anthropology when they agreed to meet for drinks after a (debatably) successful talent show with the teens. After that harrowing semester planning the event and a hilarious night recounting it, Kyle and Elizia began to think that pluck and cultural anthropology might be just the right engines for starting an incredible journey. The two tested that notion and began a love tour that so far has spanned at least 3 US states and 2 foreign countries.

Kyle and Elizia took their first leap of faith by moving to Lansing, MI in 2014 for Kyle's pursuit of a Ph.D. and Elizia's pursuit of bigger leadership opportunities within the nonprofit world. While getting their Midwestern sea legs, Kyle snuck in two life-altering trips to Amman, Jordan for his studies. Meanwhile, Elizia explored volunteer management, first throughout the state and then in Flint. In their off-time, the pair developed an affinity for antique shopping, craft beers, and ethnic cooking.

Lansing was just the beginning. Between December 2016 and March 2017, Kyle pulled off two proposals: one to ask for Elizia's hand in marriage, and, the other to ask her to move to Chicago for his new opportunity at Northwestern University.

For now, the Windy City is their home and the site of their upcoming nuptials on Sunday, August 18, 2019. Moving around the country is a cheeky theme for their relationship, but they actually define their relationship as a constant "learning affair" and can't wait to share all the loveable facts they have learned with wedding guests from all over the country.
